Monday, March 8: International Women's Day

Let us honor one another and ourselves.

Let us honor our contributions to the planet, and to our families.

Let us support ALL women, especially mothers.

Let us fight abuse and violence against women worldwide...including the violently coercing and exploiting them and commodifying their children.

International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Action you can take:
  • To honor the resilience of millions of women survivors of war around the world, Women for Women International is hosting a global campaign called Join me on the Bridge on International Women's Day: March 8, 2010.  Find this and other actions here.

It is also Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb 21-27, providing a time to shine a spotlight on eating disorders and shatter the misconceptions and stigma that have surrounded these illnesses for all too long. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, eating disorders are serious illnesses with a biological basis modified and influenced by emotional and cultural factors.  They are not lifestyle choices. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.

Information on this very serious ilnness that affects womenmore than men is available here.
