Follow-up to
NY the "ponzi scheme" adoption lawyer story.
Lawyer Arrested in Adoption Scam Is Offered Plea Deal A possible plea deal for a Long Island, N.Y., attorney charged with running an adoption scam could land him behind bars for up to 20 years. Kevin Cohen, who was indicted in October on charges that he stole more than $300,000 from couples looking to adopt by promising them children who did not exist, has until April 23 to decide whether to take a plea of 7 1/3 to 22 years, which under statute is capped at 20 years.

As it turns out, he has as much time as he needs. Even though the Judge was firm about his time frame, that Judge is no longer on this case, for the time being. As of April 27th, Cohen was still behind bars but with a new, court appointed attorney and a new Judge. So now the thing is mired in confrence. I am told, by the DA, that this is not really a delay and that things should start moving now. I thought that things were supposed to be firm on the 22nd of March, when I was in the courtroom for Cohen's decision. That is when Cohen's attorney left the case and he was assigned a part 18-B attorney by the Judge. it was then that the Judge gave Cohen the April 23 deadline. Recently, at some point, Judge Kase removed himself to concentrate on a murder trial thus the huge shake up in this little fiasco.
i was in jail with mr cohen and he thinks he is getting off because of being mistreated
