Baby Buying Gone Bad

A retrospective surrogate contract?

Cristiano Ronaldo facing battle with the British mother of his baby over access rights

Footballer (Soccer player)  Cristiano Ronaldo is allegedly coming under pressure from the woman who had his baby - unveiled for the first time as an attractive British student - to give her access to the child.

The 25-year-old former Manchester United player stunned the world last summer by announcing he had become a father.

At the time he said his son would be raised under his 'exclusive guardianship' and it later emerged he had allegedly bought the 20-year-old mother's silence in a £10million deal.

But sources say she now bitterly regrets handing over her baby - said to be the result of a one-night stand after she met the Portuguese superstar in a London nightclub - and regularly phones him saying she has changed her mind and offering to pay the money back.

The woman is understood to be so distressed at her decision that she has become deeply depressed and dropped out of her course.

A clause in the contract drawn up by Ronaldo's lawyers prevents her from discussing the situation with anybody, including her family and friends.

She has explained her sudden wealth on an unexpected windfall.

'She's often calling him late at night. She cried down the phone to him and pleads with him,' a source close to the woman told the Sunday Mirror.

'He shouldn't even be in contact with her but they have got into a twisted sort of routine.
'She even calls him after matches to congratulate him on how he played, hoping that one day she can appeal to his better nature.

'She feels like she has sold her soul. She has this millionaire lifestyle but can never tell her friends and family the truth about what has happened and that makes her feel incredibly lonely.'

A friend of Ronaldo, who moved to Real Madrid for a record £80million in 2009, said: 'As far as he is concerned it was her choice, her decision.'

Ronaldo has apparently said of the woman 'I've only spent time with her naked' - a reference to their single night of passion in a hotel.

After discovering she was pregnant, she contacted him through his agent, Jorge Mendes.

A DNA test was carried out while he was away playing for Portugal in the World Cup in South Africa and he announced he had become a father on Facebook on July 3.

The first proper sighting of the six-month-old, who has curly brown hair and blue eyes, was in the crowd at a Real Madrid game on December 8. He was being carried by Ronaldo's mother Dolores, 55, who is raising the baby with the player's sisters, Elma and Liliana Catia.

A friend added: 'Somehow the child's mother has managed to get in touch with him and is hounding him to see the baby.

'She will tell him about the millionaire's life she is now leading, with trips to exclusive London nightclubs. Her friends think she is a lottery winner and that's exactly how she's been behaving.

'But she is finding out that nothing will take the place of seeing her own child grow up. If they carry on talking like this she will only get more and more hurt.'

Ronaldo won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League while at Manchester Utd and was voted FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008.

While this is a very sad story, tragic actually and it once again shows the sacred bond between a mother and her child, there is another side to it that disturbs me. I mean, come on people, it is the 21st century and there is easy access to plenty of different methods of birth control. They couldn't make a quick stop at a drugstore or have some birth control available already? It is acceptable in western societies for unmarried people to have sex so I find the lack of foresight at preventing these types of unplanned pregnancies disturbing. It does surprise me for people in their twenties.

Acting impetuously in a moment of passion does not surprise me at all.

What we do not know is how premeditated it was. Did he intentionally want a child? Was this not the same as Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe - except perhaps with actual intercourse. Women often intentionally get pregnant on one night stands, why not a man who did it intentionally, even through trickery.

All of that is speculation however, What is real is that this man BOUGHT full guardianship or custody. Is that legal?? Doesn't sound like it to me!

It certainly is not moral and a shame that she originally agreed. I pray she is able to overturn the contract as an illegal agreement for her sake and for the sake of the child who deserbves to know his mother.

I understand your point about acting impetuously. However, it is the child who pays the ultimate price. It sounds like he will be a ping pong ball. To not think about the effect on any child they might create is disturbing.

I agree with you on the legal issues. However, I would like to see less of these situations where it is like trying to lock the barn after the horse has escaped.

People in passion are not thinking about children. TRhat's nothing usual. Unplanned children are born every minute.

However, this mother and father had nine months to think this custodial arrangement out and come up with a plan that was in the child's best interest. What they agreed to is not. It's obscene and hopefully illegal and will be undone.

Young women of childbearing age are always aware that they can get pregnant. It is young ones like 16 y.o. who think it can't happen to them. If this wasn't the case, each woman would have 30 kids a piece. Guess I'm just a big fan of birth control.

Obviously, I totally advocate re-establishing the mother's rights. Even $10 million can't take away the pain of losing one's child.

Actually, I'd like to see the mother get full custody and $10 million. Now that would be justice!

Family court judges recognize the principle that sole custody is never in a child's best interest unless. Both of these parties have judgment issues. Offering the payment and accepting it were both bad calls. But, neither rise to the level of unfit to parent. The agreement should be thrown out as am illegal contract and then both parents are parents and have to arrange shared custody and visitation. That is what is in the child's best interest.
