She may be "parenting" Vanessa, but there is NO WAY IN HELL she is Vanessa's mother.
This is WHY it is crucial for laws to be passed in states requiring the biological father's signature for relinquishment. It is time that the power to relinquish or not be placed in both of the parent's hands instead of the mother's. If a child's father is willing to parent his own flesh and blood, he should be allowed to do so.
The adoption machine has been greased way too long and needs a serious overhaul. No state/government should be able to relinquish a father's rights to parent his own child. PERIOD.
